Highland adventures

Back from a fabulous, restful week up in Scotland.  Three nights in Edinburgh followed by three nights at a B&B on the shores of Loch Long.

The sun shone all week apart from Monday 6 August.  The night we had tickets to see the Edinburgh Tattoo!  Neither of us wanted to admit to the other just how wet and miserable we were.  There were a couple of highlights that made it just about worth it - the drummers from Basel, the Norwegian conscription army with their outstanding synchronised gun display and the massed pipe band.

Before the Tattoo on Monday we made it to a couple of the Fringe events - Rhythmic Circus which was absolutely outstanding and a stand up comedy show by "up and comming" comedians.  Definitely up and coming!

Unfortunately Monday's efforts well and truly exhausted Matt and we had to forgo further forrays into the Fringe Festival.  We whiled away Tuesday catching up on sleep and watching the Olympics.

On Wednesday we headed over to a B&B on the shores of Loch Long.  We took the scenic route there, stopping in Stirling enroute.  Unfortunately all the tea shops were up on the hill and coupled with the heat, it was beyond Matt's stamina to walk any distance so we carried on towards Loch Long.  Much to my excitement, the scenic route took us around Loch Lomond and we were able to stop for a paddle.  The water was so clean, clear and warm.  It reminded me of Marlborough Sounds back home.  Heaven.  We made it to our B&B, Knockderry Country House Hotel early evening and it was every bit as good as the pictures on the website.

Matt spent the next two nights wide awake and slept during the heat of the days!  We did manage a drive around the other side of Loch Lomond to Loch Fyne and on to Inverary where, like all good tourists, we sampled the whiskey!
