Henna tattoos - why not?

Nicole from Toni & Guy
With thinning hair turning a very ageing shade of white, I was left with little other options than to shave it off.  Thankfully the Headwrappers workshop had given us information on salons that are used to dealing with people losing their hair from cancer treatments.  There's Trevor Sorbie's My New Hair, or there's Toni and Guy's Strength in Style.  As I wasn't getting a wig or having my wig styled, I found a Toni and Guy salon that had signed up to the Strength in Style scheme.  Right from the booking through to the appointment, they were great.  There was no awkwardness, the lovely Nicole was able to talk to me about my treatment, how my hair had fallen out and give advice on how best to look after my bald head and about regrowth.  I was even able to strut out the salon without any headscarf - a bald head is really liberating!

Another motivation for getting my head shaved was that I had decided to have a henna tattoo on my crown!  A friend of a friend, the lovely Bindya, came over to my place to do the henna.  We bought henna for sensitive skin from the lovely Bharati, which smelt amazing.  For 90 mins I tried my best to sit still, while Bindya worked her magic and somehow designed a symmetrical pattern which reminds me of a 1920's crotchet cap!  I'm in awe at how steady her hand was and at the intricacy of the pattern. I'm now loving my bald head and showing off my tattoo!

Bindya was also generous enough to donate her earnings to Cancer Research UK.  Thank you so much for donating your time and amazing skill to help me feel good about myself and further research into cancer treatments.
