Staying fit through chemo

One of my biggest fears is becoming immobile due to the bone cancer in my spine.  As a result, I've been trying to stay mobile as much as possible.  I was hoping to get back to swimming again after the end of chemo - especially as it's non weight bearing and I wouldn't have to worry about chlorine playing havoc with my hair!  However, with surgery on the cards at the end of September followed by radiotherapy, this won't be a practical option for a while.

Zoe, my physio at Guy's Cancer Centre has put me in touch with Macmillan Move More which offers physical activities and gym referrals.  Zoe also recommended Yoga and Nordic Walking.  However, as I'm still on treatment, they won't let me join the Mindful Movement class at Guy's and it's not safe for me to join a regular Yoga class yet.

That leaves Nordic Walking. - it's gentle on the joints, gets your heart rate up, and has been recommended by Public Health England.  Guy's Cancer Centre doesn't offer any Nordic Walking classes so the nearest park to me would be Wimbledon Common.  I've signed up for a taster session with Jackie through the Nordic Walking UK site and with Rosie through British Nordic Walking.  I have a taster session with Rosie in Wimbledon Common at the beginning of September - watch this space for how I get on!
